Welcome to Teen Challenge, a Ministry of God's Undeserved Kindness!

Teen Challenge of the Smokies exists to provide men with an effective and comprehensive Christian faith-based solution to life controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to become productive members of society. Teen Challenge of the Smokies endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.

Our vision is to provide complete prevention and recovery to those who struggle with life controlling problems throughout western North Carolina and beyond. Teen Challenge firmly believes, and results show, that a relationship with God through Jesus Christ results in permanent freedom from bondage. This central spiritual dynamic is the foundation on which all aspects of the Teen Challenge program are built. Teen Challenge rests upon one reason for success: "The Jesus Factor".

History:

Teen Challenge

was established

in 1958 by David

Wilkerson on the

streets of the New York slums

David, a small town Midwest pastor, had a heart for the troubled teens dealing with drugs, violence and gangs. Teen Challenge has grown to include more than 1,000 ministries in 8 countries around the world. Over the course of 50+ yrs. the organization has transformed the lives of thousands of men and women, breaking the cycles of drug addiction, alcoholism, gang life, and other life-controlling problems.

Teen Challenge has become known worldwide as "The Faith Based Solution to the Drug Epidemic." Past government and university studies have shown a documented success rate of 86% for those who have graduated from the Teen Challenge program. The success rate is based on graduates many years after they leave Teen Challenge.

In 2008, Teen Challenge of the Smokies was birthed in Sylva, North Carolina. Over the past 4 years our vision has not faded. We know it was the Lord who started this ministry and we know the Lord will complete it. We have remained unwavering and dedicated as we are now approaching our goal of full residential and non-residential long term recovery ministry.

Here at the top of Pinnicle Point, you can see the heart of our mission field. This overlook of Sylva, NC expresses our Father's commitment to those who are suffering from life-controlling problems. Consequently, Teen Challenge of the Smokies has been made a steward of God's undeserved kindness to this community and beyond. With humility we are committed to service in Love.

  1  Cor.

My dear friends, stand firm and don't be shaken. Always keep busy working for the Lord. You know that everything you do for Him is worthwhile

My name is Charles Lee. The executive director for Teen Challenge of the Smokies. I would like to share a little about what the Lord has accomplished in me. I am a graduate of Teen Challenge. I was an addict for nearly 20 yrs, and at the point of my entry into Teen Challenge my condition seemed hopeless. I was in trouble with the law in both Tennessee and Kentucky. I was facing probation violation and definate jail time. I had several charges against me and had already lost my driving priviledges, due to DUI. I had just abandoned any hope of a decent future for me when the kindness of the Lord brought me to the door of Teen Challenge. I graduated one year later and continued with a 3 month internship with my local pastor in my hometown. The internship was a prerequisite for the Teen Challenge Ministry Institute in L.A., California. This school was another year of discipleship.   Wow, what a difference Teen Challenge made in my life.   The first year in the program I was taught  to understand, take responsibility for,  and embrace my weaknesses and shortcomings. In order that Christ's strength could be made perfect in me. A deliverence from "self" and an intrance into another's "way" and "life". The following year I spent in the Ministry Institute(TCMI) was the next nail in the "coffin for my old life". There I was given hands on experience in serving others: serving in the local church, evanglism and outreach, leadership, and much more. Collectively, those 2+ years brought me out of a life of self-centeredness into a life with multiply abilities for serving others. I'm a new man.  I wanted to share that with you, so that as you look at the picture above, you will understand how Syva, NC and the Western North Carolina region has become my mission field to share the good news about God's great kindness through Jesus Christ. Jer. 29:11(cev) "I will bless you with a future filled with hope--a future of success, not of suffering.
